WHAT IS A DOUGH BOY?

The original name of Dough Boys can be traced back to the General George Custer and at
least to the soldiers of the American-Mexican War of 1846 - 1848.
The colloquialism had applied only to infantrymen before World War I, but some time between
April 1917 and November 1918 the world expanded to include the whole American Armed Forces.

The term was in use until the end of the Second World War when it mysteriously vanished and
the returning soldiers were referred to as G.I's.

What is a Dough Boy? A doughboy was a flour dough dumpling either fried in a frying pan or
mounted on arrows, bayonettes, or sticks and placed into a campfire to
brown evenly, then rolled in cinnamon and sugar. They were the predecessor to doughnuts.
